A typical handsized specimen of a mass of Garnet crystals on a rock matrix with a little intermixed Epidote and Actinolite.  There are crystal faces showing where the piece split along the crystal faces.  The Shap Blue quarry works the Borrowdale Volcanics series of rocks within the metamorphic aureole of the Shap Granite, worked at the nearby Shap Pink Quarry.
