A good example of dark Andalusite crystals to 15mm scattered through an altered skiddaw slate rock. Andalusite is common and easily spotted as the white Chiastolite varity within the metamorphic aureaole of the underlying skiddaw granite, but these dark crystals are less widely distributed and need natural erosion of the rock to bring out the crystals. This specimen was picked up on the southern flank of Knott.
